Steelers make history with unprecedented start to season

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Pittsburgh is the 34th team in NFL history to be outgained by its opponent in each of its first eight games of a season. But it is the first to have a winning record through those eight games.

The Steelers have been out gained by 790 yards, which is second worst to only the Broncos (830), per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Pittsburgh, which is averaging the fourth-least total yards per game (278.5) and allowing the third most total yards per game (377.3), continues to find ways to win and has those around the league scratching their heads.

“It’s a magic trick. There’s no other way to explain it,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano said on “Get Up.” “They’re literally good at nothing other than winning the game. It’s ridiculous. I don’t see how it’s sustainable but hats off to them for finding a way.”

As ugly as the Steelers have looked at times, they are winning, which is really the only stat that matters at the end of the day. Graziano believes it has everything to do with the man in charge.

“Mike Tomlin is a Hall of Fame coach,” Graziano added. “If ever the Steelers got tired of him, teams would fire their coaches to line up to try and hire him. There’s nobody better at consistently, week in and week out, making sure their team is ready to play the game.”

It is likely Pittsburgh will make some coaching changes, outside of Tomlin of course, following the season. For now, the Steelers will continue trying to win in ugly fashion the rest of the way.
