Stoke City and Preston North End players suffer injuries on international duty with Republic of Ireland

Stoke City’s Enda Stevens and Preston North End’s Will Keane have both picked up injuries on international duty.

The pair were in action for the Republic of Ireland last night. They played France in a Euro qualifier and eventually lost the game 2-0, with both Stevens and Keane coming off in the second half.

And speaking after the game, Ireland boss Stephen Kenny gave an update on the pair, saying:

“Enda looks like a calf injury and Will an abductor so we’ll have to see. It wouldn’t be looking good for either of them in short proximity of course.”

Ireland have one more game left in this month’s international break; at home against the Netherlands in another Euro qualifier on Sunday.

Both Stevens and Keane joined their respective teams this summer, with Stevens joining as a free agent following his Sheffield United release and Preston signing Keane from Wigan Athletic

A big blow…

Both Alex Neil and Ryan Lowe will be frustrated to hear this news; Lowe especially with Keane having fired his side to the top of the Championship table in time for this international break.

The former Manchester United man has scored four in five Championship outings so far this season to make him the joint highest scorer in the league so far, so Lowe will be praying that his injury isn’t a serious one.

And Stevens is an important player for Stoke City who’ve had a mixed start to the season, so boss Neil will again be hoping that his injury is not a long-term one.

The Championship gets back underway later this month with Stoke City heading to Norwich City, and Preston North End hosting Plymouth Argyle.
