Stoke City Set To Land  Major Transfer Coup

Stoke City are set to complete the signing of Dutch midfielder Wouter Burger for a substantial transfer fee, according to journalist Fraser Fletcher.

The 22-year-old is expected to complete a £4.3 million move to the Championship side, ahead of their clash with Millwall on Saturday, subject to paperwork and final clearance by the FA and EFL.

Who is Wouter Burger?

The midfielder currently applies his trade for FC Basel in the Swiss Super League, where he has been since August 2021. The Dutchman began his career with Feyenoord, whilst joining both Excelsior and Sparta Rotterdam on separate loan spells. He’s made five appearances so far this season, picking up two assists.

An excellent start

Stoke City began the 2023/24 campaign in fine form, winning two of their opening three league matches as well as securing a place in the next round of the EFL Cup.

The club beat Rotherham 4-1 on the opening day, before squeezing past West Bromwich Albion in the cup. Ipswich dealt a blow to their start with a 2-0 win, before Stoke bounced back with a 1-0 win against Watford at the weekend.

Stoke are slowly but surely building an excellent side that can become dark horses in the Championship this season. Burger is another strong addition to the side’s midfield.

Whether he can continue his fine form in England does remain to be seen, but with two assists in five games already this season, he will certainly be full of confidence upon joining the Midlands side.
