SUNDERLAND DEAL FOR £12M NEWCASTLE UNITED TARGET COLLAPSED
Sunderland have missed out on the late signing of Newcastle United transfer target Benjamin Rollheiser from Estudiantes.
Newcastle United target Benjamin Rollheiser nearly completed a shock move to rivals Sunderland before the transfer deadline.
That is according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who claims that Sunderland actually agreed a deal to sign Rollheiser.
It’s stated that Sunderland were planning to bring Rollheiser in on loan having struck an agreement with Estudiantes.
The Argentinian side had agreed to let Rollheiser go having been dumped out of the Copa Sudamericana by Corinthians in midweek.
Rollheiser had even rejected a move to Russia in order to try and make a switch to the Championship.
However, the deal collapsed because Rollheiser’s registration is partly owned by a third party and they didn’t like the terms of the loan.
That meant Rollheiser missed out on his move to Wearside and will remain in Argentina for the foreseeable future.

Rollheiser may have had interest in Russia but the North East seemed like his most likely destination all along.
Sunderland missed out but their bitter rivals Newcastle United were also interested in signing the Estudiantes star.
Nixon reported earlier in August that Newcastle were keen on landing Rollheiser for around £12million.
The Magpies ended their window with deals for full backs Valentino Livramento and Lewis Hall rather than another winger like Rollheiser.
Maybe Newcastle will keep tabs on him moving forward with Sunderland surely set to make another attempt in 2024.
Rollheiser has been impressive of late, racking up 12 goals and five assist in his last 41 games for Estudiantes.
The former River Plate man predominantly plays on the right flank and cuts inside, leading to Estudiantes boss Eduardo Dominguez telling Ole that he sees aspects of Lionel Messi in Rollheiser.
That’s pretty lofty praise but the 23-year-old seems destined foe Europe soon enough – whether it’s with Newcastle, Sunderland another team elsewhere.
