REPORTER CLAIMS SPURS HAVE DISCUSSED LATE MOVE FOR £15M ‘BORN LEADER’

Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly held internal discussions over a move to sign Leicester City defender Wout Faes.

Leicester City ace Wout Faes is thought to be one name on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer wish list.

That is according to reporter Ben Jacobs, who was speaking on Last Word on Spurs late on Wednesday night.

Jacobs claims that Tottenham are looking at a number of centre back targets ahead of the transfer deadline.

The CBS Sports reporter claims that Faes is a ‘surprise name’ in the mix for Tottenham.

Jacobs – a Leicester City fan – claims that Tottenham are one of a number of clubs to have at least held internal discussions about a late move for Faes.

Leicester are adamant that they don’t want to sell Faes, so this one looks like a very unlikely move in the final days of the window.

Jacobs still thinks this is one move to keep an eye on with Tottenham ready to move for a new centre back before the window shuts.

“To throw in a more distant name, a surprise name, I don’t think anything is advanced at this point because Leicester’s position is clear that they don’t want to sell, but just keep a small eye on Wout Faes, who obviously went down with Leicester and was the Wesley Fofana replacement from last summer.”

“There’s a few clubs looking and I’m told that Tottenham are one of them that have at least discussed the possibility internally. It doesn’t feel like a deal, at this stage, that’s going to progress because of Leicester’s position. It would be a big surprise but again, it’s evidence that Tottenham have got in excess of six centre back names that they’re prepared to move for,” he added.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Wout Faes?

Faes started out with hometown club Rauw Sport Mol before joining the Lierse ranks as a kid.

Anderlecht saw potential in Faes and snapped him up in 2012, aged just 14.

The Daily Mail reported way back in 2014 that Chelsea and Manchester United wanted to sign Faes but he stayed with Anderlecht.

The 6ft 2in centre back went on loan to Heerenveen and Excelsior in the Netherlands before moving on to Oostende in 2018.

That’s where Faes started to fulfil his potential and he kicked on to earn himself a 2020 move to French side Reims.

Faes continued to shine and Leicester were more than happy fork out £15million to bring him to the King Power Stadium last summer.

Faes had his ups and downs last season, infamously scoring two own goals at Anfield and suffering relegation with the Foxes.

The Belgian still showed promise in the Premier League though and that’s why Tottenham are having a look now.

Hailed as a ‘born leader’ by Anderlecht academy manager Jean Kindermans, Faes would give Tottenham another centre back option for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play but any move surely depends on Davinson Sanchez or Eric Dier moving on.
