Swansea City fan banned for five years after behaviour at Cardiff City derby

He also can’t travel to any town where Swansea City or Wales are playing

A football supporter from Swansea has been banned from all matches in the UK for five years after his actions at a South Wales derby. Alexander Wilkinson, from Birchgrove, Swansea, was arrested for a public order offence at last season’s derby match at Cardiff City Stadium.

Wilkinson, 41, had previously been subject to a three-year Football Banning Order. At the match, he was “seen to goad, verbally abuse, and gesture towards opposing fans,” South Wales Police said. He also attempted to break through the segregation between home and away fans.

He pleaded guilty to a public order offence at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on September 5, 2023. He was given a new five-year banning order which prevents him from attending any regulated football match in the UK, or from entering any town or city where Swansea City or Wales are playing.

When matches are being played outside the UK, he must report to a named police station and surrender his passport. PC Christian Evans from South Wales Police said: “The overwhelming majority of people who attend Cardiff City Stadium behave responsibly and enjoy a safe experience.

“But whenever there is evidence of football-related disorder we always pursue those responsible in order that appropriate action is taken. I hope this court result sends out a clear message that similar behaviour will not be tolerated at the Cardiff City Stadium.”

Cardiff and Swansea play each other on Saturday night in the Welsh capital in the first South Wales derby of the season.
