Multiple teams in talks with Reds for Jonathan India

will not stop and while it seJonathan India rumorsems that we’ve been hearing about them for a year now despite the Cincinnati Reds front office saying that they were not looking to move him. But not looking to move him could simply mean that they aren’t the team making phone calls and asking “do you want Jonathan India?” and not necessarily that they aren’t interested in trading him in the right deal. Jon Morosi of MLB Network is reporting that the market is still active and multiple teams are actively in trade talks with Cincinnati for India.

In the last week the front office mentioned that Jonathan India, who seems to have lost his starting job at second base, could play several positions including the possibility of seeing some action in the outfield. With a crowded infield, India – who has only played second base in the big leagues – appears to be looking at a utility player role after the team signed Jeimer Candelario to add another player ahead of him on the depth chart to go along with Matt McLain at second base, which limits just how much moving around the team can do with Noelvi Marte and Elly De La Cruz to slide McLain off of second base and get India on the field.

Cincinnati is in a scenario where other teams know that they want to move Jonathan India in a trade rather than subject him to being a utility player and diminishing his trade value even further. Thus far in the offseason, though, they’ve resisted taking less in return than they believe they should be getting. With multiple teams trying to make a deal it does give the Reds some potential leverage in trying to play teams against each other. How far that can go, knowing that India’s likely a bench player for them at this point, is only so far.
