Steelers Make Quarterback Change, Mason Rudolph to Start Against Bengals
CINCINNATI — Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback for the Steelers on Saturday against the Bengals. Mike Tomlin made the announcement on Monday afternoon.
Rudolph replaces veteran Mitch Trubisky, who struggled in his two starts.
Starter Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury against the Cardinals in Week 13. He underwent surgery and could return next week against the Seahawks.
Rudolph, 28, completed 2-of-3 passes for three yards in Week 15 against the Colts. He’s 5-4 as a starting quarterback and has appeared in 18 career games. The veteran is 2-0 as a starter against the Bengals with both wins coming during the 2019 season.
Rudolph has thrown for 2,369 yards, 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his six-year career.
The Steelers enter Saturday’s matchup with a 7-7 record. The Bengals are 8-6. Both teams need to win if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.
