Clayton Kershaw Rumors: Texas Rangers Remain Legitimate Landing Spot

Entering the offseason, one of the bigger storylines surrounding the Dodgers was the status of veteran starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw. The pitcher himself shared the news that he was having surgery to repair the shoulder issue that bothered him the entire second half of the season. He expressed that he hoped to pitch at some point next season, but that remains up in the air at this time. Kershaw has flirted with retirement over the last few seasons, signing one-year deals with the Dodgers to keep flexibility.

But he has also considered joining his hometown team, the Texas Rangers as well. Texas has been interested in him for some time now, and this could be the offseason that we see Kershaw make the jump. Rangers General Manager Chris Young wouldn’t comment on Kershaw but did wish him well in his recovery from shoulder surgery.

“I can’t speak about any specific free agent,” Young said at the GM Meetings on Tuesday. “But certainly, as a friend, I wish Clayton the best (in his recovery).” Per Chris Young via The OC Register The Rangers would love to bring Kershaw in for the final year or so of his career. And now that they are coming off a World Series win, they could be a very attractive option for the future Hall-of-Fame pitcher.

The Dodgers would love to have Kershaw back in the mix as well, but it remains to be seen what he will do this winter. His surgery could complicate things, so a multi-year contract could be on the table to make sure that he gets the money and services he needs. President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman commented on Kershaw and reiterated that LA would be very happy to welcome him back to the organization going forward
