Tottenham ‘considering’ major appointment after Aston Villa decision

Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive amid claims that Tottenham are set to appoint Barcelona’s Mateu Alemany who was previously linked with the Villans

Tottenham are said to be “considering” a move for Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany after he chose against joining Aston Villa.

The  Villans reportedly wanted Alemany and the Spaniard had initially agreed to make the switch to England before he U-turned and pledged his commitment to his role at the Camp Nou.

Villa instead managed to land highly-rated Sevilla director of football Monchi who is working alongside Unai Emery after leaving Sevilla for a second time in his career. His most recent success with the La Liga side was to win the Europa League which he has won seven times during his two stints at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Spurs could now be set to appoint Alemany as their director of football, with the Barcelona man to depart the Catalan giants in September.

He tweeted: “Tottenham considering Mateu Alemany as potential option as new Director of Football starting from September.

“Alemany will part ways with Barça on September 2 and was close to Aston Villa in June — PL opportunity could return soon with Spurs.”
