Unai Emery gives Emi Martinez update ahead of Liverpool vs Aston Villa
BirminghamLive brings you the latest Aston Villa news as Unai Emery gives an update on Emi Martinez after the World Cup winner missed the victory over Burnley at Turf Moor
Unai Emery is hopeful Emi Martinez will be available for selection against Liverpool next weekend after the goalkeeper missed Aston Villa’s win over Burnley.
Martinez is currently nursing an injury to his right calf, and did not travel to Turf Moor after being assessed on Saturday. He started in the 5-0 win over Hibernian on Wednesday, but was substituted at half-time due to the “small pain”.
Robin Olsen replaced him in the starting line-up against Burnley to make his fourth Premier League appearance under Unai Emery. The Sweden international is expected to feature against Hibernian in the second leg of Villa’s Europa Conference League play-off at Villa Park on Thursday.
“I don’t know exactly for Thursday, I don’t know exactly for Sunday. It’s very important to give other players chances and opportunities today, like with Robin Olsen.”
Villa could make it four wins in a row in all competitions on Thursday when they host Hibs at home, having defeated Everton and Burnley in between the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off tie with the Scottish side.
