Report: Vincent Kompany now wants to sign Leeds teenager for Burnley

Vincent Kompany is interested in signing Willy Gnonto for Burnley as Leeds United now face a nervy few weeks waiting to see if they can keep the Italy international.

That is according to a report from The Telegraph, which suggests that the Clarets are rivalling Everton for the 19-year-old, who has shone since his switch to Elland Road.

Willy Gnonto whetted the appetite for what he could potentially do in the Championship with his display for Leeds against Cardiff City on Sunday. While he did not score, some of his touches were absolutely sublime. And he did almost manage to produce another magical goal against the Bluebirds.

It is unlikely that that performance however, did Leeds many favours when it comes to potentially keeping Gnonto beyond the end of the current window.

The Telegraph is now reporting that Burnley are admirers of the teenager.

The good news is that the report adds that no move is close for Gnonto right now.

It would be a huge boost for Daniel Farke if Leeds could hold onto Gnonto. He has the talent to take the league by storm this season. And obviously, he would net the club a lot more if he moves on when we are a Premier League club.

But he will be aware that playing in the Championship will do nothing for his chances of remaining in the Italy squad. And there are the European Championships coming up at the end of this season.

Kompany has changed the perceptions of Burnley since his arrival. And if his style proves to be successful in the top-flight, a lot of players are going to be tempted by the chance to move to Turf Moor.

Hopefully Gnonto is one of those who is not tempted by a potential move over the coming weeks.
