Harris: “We seemed to be a well-organized, professional team.”
Regarding their professional performance against Morecambe at Priestfield, Neil Harris praised his team.
Following a 2-1 victory over Morecambe, Neil Harris said his squad were disciplined and well-organized as Gills reclaimed first place in the standings.
Gillingham manager Neil Harris praised the organization and structure of his team’s play in the first half of their 2-1 victory over Morecambe at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday. The victory gave Gillingham all three points.
Gillingham took an early lead thanks to George Lapslie, but Michael Mellon immediately tied the score for The Shrimps. A superb goal was scored by Connor Mahoney, who used deft agility to bend a shot into the top corner from just inside the penalty area.
Harris was taken aback by Macauley Bonne’s performance for Gillingham, who ran the line by himself and opened doors for his teammates.
The Gills boss is pleased with how his team cemented their dominance at ME7 with three straight victories, extending their strong start to the 2023–24 season.
The ultimate result was…
“Since I’ve been at the Football Club, the first half of the game was the best half of football. With the chances we generated and the positions we found ourselves in, we should have been four or five ahead after the first 45 minutes.
We ultimately failed to score three, four, or five points because we allowed an extremely sloppy goal. Although I am extremely delighted, I will always acknowledge that there is work to be done. Although we have a “clean-sheet” attitude, today’s goal was really terrible to concede. With two inexperienced center-halves, there is undoubtedly some work to be done.
We appeared to be a competent, organized, and structured team in the second half, but we failed to go for the opponent’s throat.
The first goal…
We merely set them up; it was up to the players to deliver; they did so; so, props to the players.
“The delivery and movement were both superb. As he does 10 or 12 times over a season when healthy, George [Lapslie] is in the appropriate position.
The act by Macauley Bonne…
The goal that was disallowed for Macauley Bonne definitely disappointed us. He ought to have scored today. I believed Macauley was a great line leader and deserved a goal. They won’t be far behind if he keeps acting that way. We must make certain that we are producing for him.
He gave a good performance today. a selfless display that I felt merited a goal.
