Potential Baltimore Orioles Pitching Target Likely Available in Trade
Many writers and insiders have reported that the Baltimore Orioles would like to add an ace type of pitcher to their rotation this offseason. However, their limited payroll will keep them out of the running for the top available free agents.
This would likely force the Orioles to hit the trade market for the ace they’re looking for.
Many top arms are expected to be available this offseason and Baltimore should find themselves heavily pursuing those options.
One of the best pitchers in the league is rumored to be on the trade block as the Milwaukee Brewers are shopping their ace Corbin Burnes.
Former MLB executive Jim Bowden thinks it’s very likely that the 2021 Cy Young winner is moved this offseason.
“I think they both will get traded this offseason. If you want a probability, I’d say there’s a 35 percent
chance they stay until the trade deadline and 65 percent chance they get dealt this winter,” he wrote for The Athletic when talking about Burnes and their other star Willy Adames.
The Orioles would likely be able to put together the best trade package to acquire Burnes given their group of coveted prospects.
He’s expected to have a salary of around $14.1 million, which should be in the range that Baltimore is willing to pay. The star righty will hit free agency following 2024 so this could potentially be a one year rental.
They’re hoping that Grayson Rodriguez and Kyle Bradish eventually become their No. 1 and No. 2 starters, however they showed they’re not ready for those roles yet after struggling during the postseason.
Adding Burnes would give them a high-level starting unit and should make them that much more dangerous in 2024.
