Former Manager Of The Season Interested In Lincoln City Job

Former Wigan Athletic boss Leam Richardson is interested in taking the vacant managerial position at Lincoln City, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

The Imps parted company with Mark Kennedy earlier this month after falling to 16th in League One. They briefly rose to eighth under the interim guidance of Tom Shaw, although tonight’s defeat against Oxford United saw them drop a place following Derby County’s thumping win over Northampton Town.

Speaking to the BBC, chief executive Liam Scully explained that the decision to sack their manager was not solely results-based but a contribution of several on and off-pitch factors. He said:

“I know I will bore people saying this, but there are many different facets and parts of this.

This is looking at it from an elevated pitch, the progress that we are making and not necessarily the progress we have made so far, but how do we hit the measures we would like to achieve going forward?

And fundamentally that was why we felt it was in the best interests of all parties.”

Whilst former gaffer Danny Cowley remains heavily linked, Leam Richardson is reportedly keen on the position at Sincil Bank having been out of work since departing Wigan just under a year ago.

During his tenure at the Latics, he achieved a great amount of success; winning League One and collecting the Manager of the Season award during the 2021/22 campaign. The 43-year-old’s only previous management experience came at Accrington Stanley a decade ago.

Leam Richardson has been out of work for a surprisingly lengthy period considering his success in League One with Wigan. With the consistent turnover of management positions all across the Football League, it is a surprise that no one has given him a shot.

If he was able to do even three-quarters of the job he managed at Wigan with the Imps, it would undoubtedly be a brilliant acquisition for the club, who find themselves well within touching distance of promotion up to the Championship this season.
