The Chicago White Sox have fortified their catching depth by signing Chuckie Robinson to a minor-league deal. Robinson, who turned 29 just days ago, will bring his talents to Triple-A Charlotte in hopes of climbing back to the majors.

Robinson a 21st-round pick of the Houston Astros in 2016. He finally made his big-league debut for the Cincinnati Reds in 2022, though it was a brief stint. Last season, despite an impressive .290/.356/.450 slash line and 13 homers with 74 RBIs with Triple-A Louisville, he didn’t manage to break into the Reds’ catching rotation headlined by Tyler Stephenson.

He will now provide the South Siders with some much-needed depth at the catching position. With the recent addition of Max Stassi, the White Sox are restocking their catching cupboard following the departures of Yasmani Grandal and Seby Zavala.

Stassi and Korey Lee figure to start 2024 as the White Sox’ catching duo given the current depth chart. Alongside prospect Edgar Quero, who came to the Sox organization at the 2023 MLB trade deadline, Robinson will likely spend most of his time with Charlotte in 2024. He could be in the mix of potential call-ups to the big leagues should the White Sox suffer injuries or underperformance behind the plate.
