Barring something unforeseen, the Houston Astros will only make some minor tweaks to their roster heading into 2024.

They’ve done a good job of ensuring their current stars stay put after the previous departures of George Springer and Carlos Correa. Replacements for those two have come from within their organization, pointing to the elite development that their pipeline has.

As general manager Dana Brown navigates his first full offseason, it’s been speculated that owner Jim Crane would like to keep the Astros’ 2024 payroll around the same amount as last season.

This should limit what the front office can do on the open market in regards to the high-profile players that are available.

Tweaks that could come will likely be to their bullpen and adding depth to the roster.

One player that Houston should target in free agency is Eddie Rosario, who had his club option declined by the Atlanta Braves this offseason.

Despite the Astros being pretty full at the outfield position currently, there is speculation that they’re looking to move Jake Meyers to get other pieces into the mix.

If that’s the case, outfield depth could be a need, considering Yordan Alvarez’s injury history and usage at designated hitter.

Rosario and Brown are familiar with each other from their time with the Braves. The outfielder was acquired in 2021 in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians and immediately produced for Atlanta. He recording a slash line of .271/.330/.573 with seven home runs and 16 RBI and was a major factor in helping the Braves win the World Series.

The outfielder would be a solid piece to have on Houston’s roster. Out of his nine seasons in the MLB, he’s hit over 20 homers in four of them. He’s driven in 50 or more runs in six of them. And he provides good enough defense to keep his bat in the lineup.

Reuniting Rosario with Brown on the Astros would ultimately come down to price. Outfield isn’t as big of a need as other areas, so there’s no point in overspending.

But they should seriously consider getting the veteran into the mix for the 2024 season if the financials work out.
