Ange Postecoglou showed confidence in Johnson by giving the rookie his first start for Spurs in what is perhaps the most important game of the year. The 22-year-old’s time on the field was shortened after an hour when David Raya denied him a great opportunity to score against the Arsenal.

Postecoglou gave an update on the injury to the £47.5 million summer signing in remarks following the game. “I’m not sure with Brennan [Johnson], he felt his hamstring,” the Spurs manager told reporters.

Johnson was given assistance on the field, but he was unable to continue and staggered off. This week, the Welsh attacker will have scans done to determine the severity of his hamstring injury.

According to the Institute of Sport, Exercise, and Health, low grade hamstring injuries can heal in a few days to a week, at which point a player can resume training and first team play. Players with more serious injuries may need two to six weeks to recover before they may resume their sport.

With the 22-year-old perhaps returning for the trip to Luton Town on Saturday, October 7, assuming he has just sustained a low grade strain, Spurs will be hoping Johnson can be used before the October international break. Johnson might not be available until after the international break if the hamstring injury is more severe, and in the worst case scenario, he might not be ready until the away game against Wolves in November.
