Bucs Injury Update On Jamel Dean, Carlton Davis III

The Bucs secondary got torched for five touchdowns and 470 yards by Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud, who set an NFL rookie record last week in the Texans’ 39-37 come-from-behind win. It was a very rough day for Tampa Bay’s starting cornerbacks, as Jamel Dean gave up the first touchdown, a slant to Nico Collins, while Carlton Davis III gave up three scores, including the game-winner to Tank Dell with six seconds left.

Dean left that game in the first quarter with a concussion, while Davis has missed practice time this week due to a toe injury that has flared up. Both were listed as questionable on Friday – game-time decisions for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

So what is their status on Sunday morning, just hours before kickoff?

Pewter Report has learned that Dean has cleared concussion protocol and will start against the Titans, who are starting rookie quarterback Will Levis for a third straight week. Davis’ status is a true game-time decision, as he will work out with team trainers at the stadium prior to kickoff to test his injured toe, which kept him out of action in Weeks 2 and 3 earlier this season.

Second-year cornerback Zyon McCollum will start in Carlton Davis III’s place if the veteran winds up being inactive on Sunday.

The Bucs’ depth at cornerback is a little suspect right now with reserve Dee Delaney possibly being pressed into duty at strong safety where Ryan Neal has really struggled in coverage. Delaney subbed in for Neal on third downs and obvious passing downs last week in Houston before replacing him full-time in the second half after Neal’s poor angle resulted in a 75-yard touchdown by Texans receiver Noah Brown.

To bolster the cornerback position Tampa Bay elevated Keenan Isaac from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against Tennessee.
