Wasn’t interested’ – Player wanted by Coventry City in the summer discusses how he snubbed late interest
Coventry City showed an interest in West Brom playmaker John Swift towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Coventry City needed attacking reinforcements in the summer, and it was reported close to deadline day that they had taken an interest in West Brom man Swift.
Swift joined West Brom on a free transfer ahead of last season, going on to feature in all but one of the Baggies 46 Championship fixtures, scoring six and assisting nine.
And speaking to Birmingham Live, Swift discussed the summer transfer in his services, and he outlined clearly that he never wanted to leave The Hawthorns for Coventry, saying:
“To be honest it was so late in the window, I had no idea of it and when it did come about I knew it was two days left and nothing was going to get done – and even if it did I didn’t really want to leave.
“As soon as I found out I rung my agent and told him I didn’t really want to go, I wasn’t interested in leaving. I wanted to stay and had my head on staying whenever we finished the game against Swansea last season. That’s how it is in football, some things come right at the end [of the window], but for me it was a no-brainer to stay.”
Swift has since scored six goals in 11 league outings for the Baggies this season, who sit in 11th place of the Championship table compared to the Sky Blues in 13th.

Mark Robins’ side are certainly proving tough to beat and the likes of Haji Wright may yet come good for the Sky Blues, though fans may be wondering that if someone like Swift had come in, where would their side currently be in the table.
