Eli King branded ‘baller’ after assist
Morecambe fans were left drooling over Eli King’s magic feet which led to the Shrimpers’ winner against Lincoln City at the weekend.
King, who is on loan at the League One club from Cardiff City, has been a mainstay in the Morecambe midfield this season. However, he missed five games through injury last month. After returning off the bench against Barrow a week ago he reclaimed his place in the starting line-up against the Imps on Saturday.
He made a telling contribution for Derek Adams’ side, who had found themselves a goal down before Michael Mellon levelled just before the break. And it took a moment of King brilliance to turn the tie in Morecambe’s way after the restart.
The Wales youth international showed tenacity to wrestle the ball from Timothy Eyoma before producing a brilliant spin to leave his man for dead. Crucially, he looked up and played a pinpoint pass into Tom Bloxham in the box and the winger rounded the ‘keeper before slotting home the winner.
Shrimpers fans waxed lyrical about the 20-year-old after the game, with one remarking: “Eli King was an absolute baller to set up this goal. Amazing to have him back on the pitch pulling the strings.” Another demanded more respect for the midfielder, saying: “Nobody talking about this assist from King.”
