The ambition and vision of Chesterfield were major factors in Ryan Colclough’s decision to sign a new contract.
Ryan Colclough claims that the ambition and vision of the club made him delighted to extend his stay at Chesterfield.
The winger, whose contract was about to expire at the conclusion of this season, has signed a new agreement that runs through the summer of 2025.
The 28-year-old joined from Altrincham for a fee in January and has since made 34 appearances, scoring 12 goals and setting up seven more.
Colclough told the Daily Telegraph (DT) after signing his new contract: “It is something that you work really hard for every day so to be rewarded it makes you want to dig deep and give even more for the cause.
“”I had no doubts about it. I believe that everyone is aware of the club’s direction. It is certainly vital to get promoted this year, but in my mind, I think we can go again, so it was really a no-brainer. The hard work behind the scenes, the training ground, and the support we get from the fans all contribute to this. I want to reach the highest level possible, and for now, I’m focusing on Chesterfield’s performance and direction as a club.
“Coco,” as he is referred to by his teammates and the supporters, said he was happy that his new contract was signed “pretty quickly” and that it did not cause him any distractions.
Colclough has only been a member of the team for nine months, but he already says he “feels at home” and values the support of the supporters. He also made light of the fact that his music occasionally occupies all of his thoughts.
It is a catchy tune, and sometimes I find myself singing it in my head as I drive home, he chuckled. The fact that your supporters are there behind you gives you that extra push because I believe they can see how hard you have worked and how much more you still have to give. They served as the 12th guy, and occasionally I believe they significantly aided in our success.
Colclough has five goals so far.
“I am happy with my goals return so far, and I have a target in my head that I won’t share because I always have one,” he stated. Robbo will no doubt point out that despite being in at the back post, I should have scored a lot more goals, but I’m still ecstatic. For me, if it aids the team in winning, creating a chance is equivalent to scoring a goal. It is something I make an effort to accomplish each week.
“I would like to think (that I am playing some of my best football),” he continued. My game is going good. There is still a great deal to do. I always check through my footage with the gaffer, Robbo, and Webby.
