Nottingham Forest favourite Chris Cohen suffered 'sobering' Southampton stint - Nottinghamshire Live

Chris Cohen raves about 28-year-old Nottingham Forest player during defeat

Chris Cohen can’t believe that Luton didn’t want to sign Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath on a permanent deal. The Reds custodian played the full 90 minutes last night as they were beaten 1-0 against PSV.

Cohen was part of the backroom team at Kenilworth Road when they signed Horvath. Alongside Nathan Jones, they took him to the club before they both departed to take on positions at Southampton.

The modern-day Forest legend was on co-commentary duties yesterday as the Reds played in another friendly. It proved an entertaining clash for Steve Cooper’s team, although they were defeated again.

Horvath has been given the chance to shine during pre-season. Forest are still chasing a number of goalkeepers at the moment, with Matt Turner and Dean Henderson both linked.

Cohen doesn’t understand why Luton haven’t taken Horvath permanently after he helped them win promotion. He raved about the 28-year-old last night and thinks Forest have themselves a solid stopper.

He told Forest TV: “He deserves an opportunity to play in the Premier League. I can’t believe Luton don’t want him. He’s a wonderful professional and he’s good enough to play in the Premier League.”

Cohen raves about Forest goalkeeper Horvath

The man who shone at Forest for over a decade got a close look at Horvath when he was at Luton. There does seem to be no denying that he’s an honest player and one who works hard at his game behind the scenes.

However, plenty of Forest fans might disagree with Cohen and the notion that he deserves a Premier League chance. That would represent a huge risk, with Horvath never playing in the division before.

Last season, he was the first-choice custodian at Luton. They won promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs and now Rob Edwards must go out and sign a goalkeeper.

Horvath could remain at Forest for next season. It seems very unlikely that he will be the number one at the City Ground, however, and perhaps he will have to settle for the second in command role.
