Coventry City Q&A: Overpaid for strikers, was Gus replacement identified and early doom and gloom
Coventry City opinion from CoventryLive as Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner is open to question from the fans
Plenty of frustration and a bit of negativity has crept in among some Coventry City fans but it’s still early days in a transitional season for the football club. Results have been tight, most capable of going either way as the Sky Blues continue to work towards a few more points and a bit of Championship consistency.
It’s not entirely unexpected given the high summer turnover and loss of key players, and these things take time. Patience appears to be the buzz word among more rational thinking supporters while there’s clearly a bit of annoyance surrounding the fact that the club failed to recruit in the one position that looks to have hit them the hardest following the departure of Gustavo Hamer. And sod’s law, the situation has been compounded by an early season injury to Ben Sheaf.
The news that Milan van Ewijk and Kasey Palmer will also be out for six-eight weeks has added further woe to City’s attempt to get their campaign up and running, with Mark Robins forced to find a way with the players he has at his disposal. Here Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner answers some of your big questions ahead of another opportunity for a win when City travel to QPR this weekend.

AT: I can understand fans’ frustrations but people have to understand that rebuilding after such a significant turnover of players, and loss of such influential stars, takes time. Fortunately there are plenty of supporters who are more patient and positive that things will hopefully fall into place with a better all-round quality squad
AT: I think it’s safe to assume that targets will have been identified way before Hamer left. That’s what recruitment departments do, they plan ahead, look at all possible eventualities. We all knew there was a strong likelihood that he would leave in the summer. It certainly didn’t come as a shock. Now whether MR was unable to spend more money late in the window on his preferred target or whether he tried but the player’s club weren’t playing ball, we do not know. But in answer to your question, I am sure one or more targets will have been identified.
