Mark Robins is convinced he has got a Premier League striker in his ranks in Ellis Simms who finally got his season up and running with two goals to help Coventry City to a brilliant 3-1 win at Queens Park Rangers.
The summer signing from Everton has struggled to get going since his £3.5million move from Goodison Park, but showed the 2,750 travelling Sky Blues fans what he’s all about at Loftus Road where he hit two precise finishes either side of a Josh Eccles’ strike in 12 second half minutes to secure the full three points – City’s first away victory and only second win of the campaign.
Asked if he thinks the 22-year-old will be back in the Premier League one day, hopefully with Coventry, Robins said without any hesitation: “Yes. That’s why we bought him. He’s got high potential and he’s certainly not the finished article.

“He scored a goal for Everton against Chelsea last season and it was absolutely incredible. He’s got everything and can be a real handful. And sometimes it’s just learning the game and feeling comfortable in the way he operates and not trying to make him into something you want him to be but within his capabilities and comfort, and trying to push that to make him better and get him to try things he wouldn’t normally try. But that will come with experience and also with confidence.
It’s a confidence game, and for strikers more so, because they have to finish things and get contact on a ball that is moving pretty fast most of the time. He’s been desperate to score and it’s taken him nine games to get on the scoresheet, but he’s been better over the last nine or ten days and that will do him the world of good.”
He added: “At 3-0 at that stage the only blip was the goal we conceded which was a little bit like the ones we have given away lately, so we have got to be better than that. They threw everything at us and have got some quality in the team.
