Texans Sign Veteran CB To Practice Squad
The Houston Texans were expected to barely improve on last season’s 3-13-1 record this season, but instead, they have become headline news in the NFL.
They have won three games in a row and six of their last eight, and behind it all is rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who is starting to look like he may be someone special.
Although Houston’s defense hasn’t been outstanding or consistent, it has shown signs of promise this season, as it held the Arizona Cardinals to just 16 points on Sunday.
On Monday, per Adam Schefter, they made a move to bolster their depth in the secondary by signing cornerback Desmond King II to their practice squad.
King was a fifth-round draft pick in 2017 by the Los Angeles Chargers shortly after they moved north from San Diego, and in his second season, he recorded 10 passes defended and three interceptions while also moonlighting as a kick and punt returner, which got him onto the All-Pro First Team.
With his help, the Chargers went 12-4 that season and made it to the divisional round of the playoffs, where they fell to the eventual Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
King spent the 2021 and 2022 campaigns with the Texans, and during that time, he had a combined 14 passes defended, five interceptions, and 11 tackles for loss.
He played three games this year for the Pittsburgh Steelers before they released him last month, although he has gotten very little playing time and has spent almost all of his time this year on special teams.
