5 Texas Rangers most likely to be discussed in trade talks this offseason

Jackson Chourio latest prospect to sign multi-year deal

Milwaukee Brewers prospect Jackson Chourio has reportedly agreed to terms on an 8 year deal

Jackson Chourio, the 19 year old stud center field prospect for the Milwaukee Brewers, has reportedly agreed to terms on an 8 year major league deal that would guarantee him a minimum of $82 million. The deal reportedly includes a pair of club options as well as escalators that could make the total deal worth up to $142.5 million.

Chourio is the #2 player on the Baseball American top 100 prospect list, though he’s still not the highest rated player named Jackson, as he trails Baltimore Orioles prospect Jackson Holliday. Chourio was signed out of Venezuela by the Brewers in 2021, after after playing in the DSL that year, he made his stateside debut in 2022, splitting the year between low-A, high A and AA. He spent the bulk of the 2023 season at AA Biloxi, where he slashed .280/.336/.467 with 22 homers and 43 stolen bases. He profiles as a legitimate five tool player who should stick in center field.

Even if both options are exercised, Chourio would still become a free agent at the age of 29 if he plays out this deal. This gives him the benefit of obtaining generational wealth while also putting him in position to enter the free agent market, should he wish, at a relatively young age.

Elvis Andrus, INF, Rangers
Andrus played his last game with the team he came up with in 2020, which is why you might not remember it. He has been with the A’s and the White Sox since then, with the Rangers replacing him with Corey Seager — which was not a bad deal. But if you remember the infamous David Freese Fall Classic triple in 2011, the first player the camera captures who is not celebrating is Andrus, who holds his hands over his head in disbelief.

The Rangers have now vanquished that history with their first World Series title. Maybe they let Elvis — who’s ranked second in most games played as a Ranger — come back and exorcise those demons himself.

Kids, gather ‘round grandpa here and let him tell you the story of back when Chapman was being groomed to be a starter. He was! Chapman started 13 games for Triple-A Louisville back in 2010, and the Reds were seriously considering keeping the Cuba native in the rotation. They wised up in ‘12 and made him their closer, after which he made four consecutive All-Star teams.

He has been with the Yankees, Cubs, Royals and Rangers since then, winning two World Series rings along the way. Perhaps a return could be in the offing for a Cincinnati club that could use some relief help? (They should definitely keep him in the bullpen this time.)
