‘Disappointed’ letter from Steve Cooper to Nottingham Forest defender
The most recent Nottingham Forest response from NottinghamshireLive after VAR finally decided in Forest’s favor
In last night’s 1-1 draw with Burnley, a relieved Steve Cooper was pleased to accept a VAR decision that finally went Nottingham Forest’s way, but was less pleased with the circumstances surrounding Lyle Foster’s goal’s disallowed status.
Zeki Amdouni’s first-half goal gave the visitors a chance to win their first game since making their Premier League return, forcing the Reds to come back from a 1-0 deficit. Sander Berge ran past Scott McKenna and squared for Foster to roll into the net, giving the game’s chances of continuing and being won a major blow. Callum Hudson-Odoi had scored a curling equalizer to herald his arrival at the City Ground.
The ‘goal’ was initially awarded but disallowed after a VAR review, leaving Cooper with conflicted feelings and clearly outlining McKenna’s position.
The ‘amazing’ Callum Hudson-Odoi will succeed once Chelsea falters, according to Jamie Carragher.
Cooper told Sky Sports, “From what I was informed there was a clear handball, so we will accept that, some of the VAR things that have gone against us in other games, you know, with the referee that was on the game tonight.
If I’m being completely honest, I was more dissatisfied with the defending at that particular time because even if you play solid defense for the majority of the game, one mistake can cost you the game, and both in the first half and again, we came dangerously close to doing just that.
It’s handball, OK. My attention is mostly on it and how we can handle similar circumstances better, but ok, trust the procedure; they committed a handball, and we go on.
In the run-up to Amdouni’s opening goal, Clarets’ young winger Luca Koleosho beat off Forest’s debutant Gonzalo Montiel and sped past McKenna’s center back partner Joe Worrall.
