No more Aston Villa excuses as the club has a manager to match their standing in Unai Emery

It has been confirmed that the Swans are in discussion with Aston Villa over a possible permanent move for striker Keinan Davis following the sale of Joel Piroe to Leeds United.

Piroe’s move, on a four year deal, was confirmed last night and the Swans have wasted no time in moving onto the list of targets which includes Davis and, it is believed, also Tom Cannon at Everton.

The Athletic report talks with Aston Villa for Davis with confirmation that Hull agreed a fee earlier this week.  Reference was made to the deal in our articles on both Wednesday and Thursday as the increased clarity was emerging over the imminent departure of Piroe.

The deal for Davis feels more plausible at the moment than one for Cannon who certainly has more options seemingly ahead of him and, perhaps more importantly, is likely to command a larger fee for his services.

Although these may feel like early moments following the departure of Piroe we should not forget that the club have been preparing for this possibility for much of the summer (probably even earlier) and that discussions over who to bring in should that happen will have happened many times with even informal discussions having taken place to narrow down the options.

I do expect to see the club move relatively quickly on a replacement whether that be Davis, Cannon or even someone not yet linked.   And that is the way it should be.
