The 27-year-old can play across the back line and has experience playing at both right-back and left-back, as well as as a wing-back on both sides.

Mail Sport revealed on Sunday that the two clubs had advanced their discussions over a move for Castagne and the Premier League side are now set to unveil him as their newest signing after the player underwent a medical on Monday.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has been desperately attempting to reinforce his squad following a mixed start to the new Premier League season and views the versatile defender as a perfect fit.

The Belgian moved to the King Power in a £22m deal from Atalanta three years ago and helped the club win the FA Cup a year later.

However, Castagna was also involved in Leicester’s relegation to the Championship last season where he made 42 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Fulham are also close to completing the transfer of German goalkeeper Benda from Swansea.

The shot-stopper has been at the Welsh side since joining from the TSV 1860 Munchen youth set-up in 2018.

Loan spells at Swindon Town and Peterborough followed before he began to get more opportunities in the Swansea first-team.

However, despite being currently side-lined with a serious ACL injury that ended last season prematurely for him, Benda is set to join Fulham on a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old also went through a medical on Monday ahead of his move being confirmed.
