Report: Spurs want to complete a deal for forward this week – Talks are planned

The Telegraph have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now set to open talks with Nottingham Forest over a deal for Brennan Johnson, with the North London club said to be intent on signing the 22-year-old before the transfer window closes.

There has been a lot of speculation linking Johnson with a move to Spurs over recent days, and it has now emerged that the Lilywhites are ready to make a concrete move for the player.

The Telegraph state that the forward is a ‘serious target’ for Tottenham, who are now preparing for a late flurry of business before Friday night’s transfer deadline.

Tottenham are looking to get Johnson fee down

The report claims that Spurs could offer sash-plus players for Johnson, with centre-half Davinson Sanchez and winger Bryan Gil likely to be two players who could be included in the deal.

The outlet explains that Forest value Johnson at over £50m but Tottenham are hopeful that an offer of £40m plus some guaranteed instalments could be enough to clinch the deal.

The publication adds that while Forest are reluctant to sell the Wales International, they could use the money to fund some potential late signings, with PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare said to be a priority target for the club.

I fully expect this deal to get done before the transfer deadline. While £40m-£50m seems like a steep price for someone who is still not yet the finished product, that seems to be the going rate for young, homegrown potential these days.

While I am not sure if Johnson would walk into Tottenham’s starting eleven at the moment, I am totally on board with the signing if Postecoglou wants to bring him in.
