Delano Burgzorg: Huddersfield Town sign Mainz forward on season-long loan

Huddersfield Town have signed Mainz forward Delano Burgzorg on a season-long loan deal.

The 24-year-old has had spells in his native Netherlands with Heracles Almelo and De Graafschap and a loan spell in Italy with Spezia.

“When I talked with Delano, it was clear that he was very keen to come over to England and prove what he can do,” said boss Neil Warnock.

Huddersfield Town injury update as striker suffers fresh setback but avoids worst fears

Kieran Phillips has only just made his comeback from a hamstring injury but now faces another spell on the sidelines, while Tom Lees and David Kasumu are working towards returns

The Terriers have no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s trip to face Middlesbrough, but nor are any of their senior players expected to make a return – except for left-back Jaheim Headley, who is available for selection again after serving a one-match ban for the red card he was shown against Boro in the Carabao Cup last week.

Centre-back Tom Lees has been back running in training over the past week or so but is still a couple of weeks or so away from fully returning to action following the back-to-back calf and back issues that have kept him out since the beginning of pre-season.

Fellow defender Matty Pearson admitted that he spent the Leicester City game fighting through the lingering effects of the dead leg that forced him off against Plymouth Argyle on the opening day, but says he is now back to full speed.

David Kasumu is expected to miss another few weeks with the ankle injury he suffered in the pre-season friendly against Heerenveen at the John Smith’s Stadium last month, with manager Neil Warnock commenting that the midfielder is unlikely to figure in his plans before the international break.

Striker Kieran Phillips made his return from a long-term hamstring injury by playing – and scoring – in the B team’s 4-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday, but has now picked up another injury. Warnock was however relieved to get the news that Phillips only faces a few weeks out, and not a few months as had initially been feared.

Right-back Ollie Turton has meanwhile revealed that he hopes to return to competitive action around the turn of the new year after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in February.
