White Sox sign catcher Chuckie Robinson to a minor-league deal

The White Sox are continuing to rebuild their catching depth.

According to his MLB.com profile page , free agent Chuckie Robinson is the latest to join the organization on a minor-league deal. He has since been assigned to the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.

Robinson, 29, has spent the past three seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization, where he made his MLB debut in 2022. He played 101 games last season with the team’s Triple-A affiliate, slashing .290/.356/.450 with 13 homers, 74 RBI, and a .806 OPS. Despite the solid performance, Robinson was not able to break into the Reds’ crowded catching rotation made up of Tyler Stephenson, Luke Maile, and Curt Casali.

Now with the White Sox, Robinson joins the recently acquired Max Stassi in bolstering the team’s overall catching depth. The veteran Stassi is likely to split the bulk of innings with Korey Lee as the team’s regular catching duo. This would leave Robinson primarily as a minor-league depth piece, though his playing time in Charlotte could become limited as prospect Edgar Quero is expected to make his Triple-A debut.
