Huddersfield Town v Cardiff City: Why getting the hair-dryer treatment would not bother Delano Burgzorg
Huddersfield Town striker Delano Burgzorg does not count himself among that number.
If Darren Moore decides to give him the hair-dryer treatment, that is fine by him. It might even get more out of him.Footage of Moore, in conversation with the Dutch striker on the training ground, did the rounds last week with the Terriers chief ‘on the case’ of the loanee in the nicest possible sense – urging him to get in the box more.
It was all good stuff, but if Moore does lose his temper with Burgzorg, it won’t bother him either.
Burgzorg commented: “I like it. I don’t mind it if a coach screams at me because I like that the coach is on my case and I need it.
“I am the type of player that needs that.
“He wants me to be more aggressive and in the box more to score goals and to score not always the nicest goals, but the tap-ins.
“I think I can be more aggressive around the box.”
Burgzorg is partway through a season-long loan at Town from German outfit Mainz, with the forward having netted twice in his opening ten appearances
That modest opening explains Moore’s call for him to get into the box more.
In mitigation, Burgzorg is still acclimatising to one of the most competitive divisions in European football, with his compatriot Sepp van den Berg, who has spent time on loan in the second tier with Preston, having marked his card about it.
On what the Liverpool defender, elder brother of Middlesbrough full-back Rav, said to him about it, Burgzorg continued: “I spoke to Sepp. He’s now playing at Mainz and he played in the Championship before.
“He told me that it’s a hard league with many games and that you don’t train that much and it’s ‘games, games, games’. But he said that you get development here.
“It is more physical than technical, but I am enjoying it. I came here to play games and that’s the most important thing.
“Now I am here, I feel like I can grow up to be a real man.”
After the first victory under Moore’s watch on Saturday, Huddersfield are seeking to double up at home this evening.The weekend win over QPR was by no means perfect, with the perceived low-key performance in some quarters from late-window signing Ben Wiles coming in for some scrutiny.
Despite the talk, Moore was quick to support the Rotherham United player and felt that he made a positive contribution.On Wiles, Moore said: “He’s 100 per cent got more to offer. (But) He’s a wonderful player, he’s someone I’ve known as an opposition manager and he was always a thorn in our side.
“With the attributes he’s got I think he’s a fantastic player for us.
“I thought on Saturday, he had a great game in terms of where he was and had a hand in the second goal.”
