‘Embarrassing’ Everton verdict shared by BBC Sport journalist following  the sack of  Sean Dyche

BBC Sport journalist shares ’embarrassing’ Everton verdict, makes 777 Partners admission

Shamoon Hafez believes the  Everton defeat to Luton Town on Saturday (30 September) was an “embarrassing result” for the club.

Writing on the BBC Sport website on Saturday (08:55pm), the journalist said Josh Wander and Steven Pasko, the co-owners of 777 Partners, will have left wondering how the Blues lost 2-1 to the Hatters after they were in attendance at Goodison Park.

He added that the Toffees “largely dominated” proceedings on Merseyside, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal wasn’t enough as the players were booed off by the fans following the defeat.

“Everton had prospective new owners 777 Partners watching on from the stands, as the Miami-based investment firm looks to complete a deal to take over the club from current owner Farhad Moshiri,” said Hafez.

“But co-founders Josh Wander and Steven Pasko, as well as manager Sean Dyche and his players, will have left Goodison Park wondering how they have lost a game they largely dominated.

“The Toffees had been high in confidence before the game, having won back-to-back games away at Brentford and Aston Villa, but this was an embarrassing result as they lost their fourth consecutive home game and were booed off by their fans.”

Toothless

It was an extremely embarrassing result for Everton as it meant Luton picked up their first-ever win in the Premier League with their victory at Goodison Park.

Although the Toffees had given themselves a slight bit of breathing space following the impressive win at Brentford, they would’ve been desperate to back that up with three points at home.

But they were absolutely toothless in front of goal, as they wasted chance after chance to get something from a game they couldn’t afford to lose.

The Blues will be hoping this isn’t a game that comes back to haunt them later in the season, but they simply have to sort their home form out after losing their opening four games at Goodison.

Their next opportunity to put things right will come against Bournemouth next Saturday (7 September), where anything other than a victory will be hugely disappointing.

In other Everton news, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have agreed on a “devastating” concern at Goodison.
