Daniel Farke: Leeds United appoint former Norwich City boss - BBC Sport

Report: Farke decides to offer Leeds star a new deal, he is ‘extremely settled’ at Elland Road

Luke Ayling is in the final year of his contract at Leeds United and TeamTalk report that the club have made a decision to hand the right-back a one-year extension – which will be offered to him in January.

Ayling, 32, has been at Leeds since joining the club from Bristol City in the summer of 2016. In that time he has amassed an impressive 263 games. Liam Cooper has 289, but has been at Leeds since 2014.

It shows how robust, and committed Ayling has been over the years. Last season, he penned a new one-year extension at Elland Road and now, new reports suggest he could be about to do the same for us.

Indeed, the report states that Daniel Farke has made the decision to keep Ayling beyond next summer. It is reported that Farke wants to keep Ayling for another year, until 2025. His leadership seen as crucial.

The report also states that Ayling is ‘extremely settled’ in Leeds with his family, suggesting he wants to stay put. It will be up to Ayling to make a decision – with the knowledge he might not be first choice.

Luke Ayling will be offered a new one-year Leeds United contract

It shows just how highly Farke rates Ayling – not only on the pitch, but off it, too. The German feels that Ayling still has something to give in terms of his footballing ability but it will be his leadership that is key.

Perhaps, Ayling’s constant availability, too. His ability to continue to churn out solid performances, and keep Rasmus Kristensen out of the picture last season – when the Dane was brought in to replace him.

Another year of Ayling at Elland Road, no matter what division – as the report states – is probably a sensible decision. But, it is up to Ayling – does he wants to sit on the bench? Or may he want a move.
