BBC Sport journalist slams Everton after ‘embarrassing’ 2-1 defeat to Luton Town

Everton suffered an “embarrassing” defeat to newly promoted Luton Town, according to BBC Sport journalist Shamoon Hafez.

The Merseyside outfit lost 2-1 to the Hatters in their Premier League clash at Goodison Park on Saturday (30 September).

Tom Lockyer and Carlton Morris scored for the visitors, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin netting for the hosts, with all three goals coming in the first half.

“Everton had prospective new owners 777 Partners watching on from the stands, as the Miami-based investment firm looks to complete a deal to take over the club from current owner Farhad Moshiri,” Hafez wrote for BBC Sport.

“But co-founders Josh Wander and Steven Pasko, as well as manager Sean Dyche and his players, will have left Goodison Park wondering how they have lost a game they largely dominated.

“The Toffees had been high in confidence before the game, having won back-to-back games away at Brentford and Aston Villa, but this was an embarrassing result as they lost their fourth consecutive home game and were booed off by their fans.”

Home misery continues

Everton were finally looking like a formidable side under Dyche thanks to their wins against Brentford and Aston Villa in the league and League Cup respectively.

But they were sent crashing back down to earth against Luton in front of their home fans, with the visitors securing just their first win of the season.

Both the performance and the result will hugely frustrate Dyche, who will now have to motivate his players once again to get back to their best.

Everton

The Toffees have now lost all four of their home Premier League matches this season, with the club really not having any fortune at all in front of their adoring home supporters. Goodison Park was once feared, but teams may now enjoy heading there given Everton’s struggles on Merseyside.

Moreover, it was a poor time for 777 Partners co-founders Wander and Pasko to make the trip to Goodison, with the players not putting on a good show for their prospective new owners.
