Spurs prepared to take advantage of Saudi Arabia’s transfer restriction to ensure Ange Postecoglou reunion
Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham, had worked with Jota at Celtic, and he may now bring him to North London given rumors that he may leave Saudi Arabia early.
Jota, a former Celtic player, had an unfortunate experience in Saudi Arabia, which has alerted Premier League teams, including Tottenham.
Heung-min Son has been utilized by new manager Ange Postecoglou this season in both his more customary role on the wing and a more central position because to the long-term injury Ivan Perisic has sustained.
Jota may be an option for Postecoglou, who needs a new forward, given the circumstances surrounding his £25 million summer transfer from the Bhoys to Al-Ittihad. Although the Saudi team signed nine foreign players, only eight of them may be enrolled in their teams according to Pro League rules.
As a result, Jota will only be able to play in AFC Champions League and Club World Cup matches. According to reports, the player’s request to end his contract was denied because manager Nuno Espirito Santo wanted to keep him for the long haul.
Nuno dismissed the issues with the player as an “internal matter” and suggested he remains in his plans for continental matches. But that won’t stop him weighing up his options in January.
Postecoglou worked with the player at Celtic Park, making a reunion a real possibility. Jota made his feelings clear on Postecoglou following his appointment as Spurs boss.
“To a man who gave me a life opportunity, never lost belief in his philosophy and marked an era. I’ll forever be grateful for every moment. Best of luck gaffer!”
Postecoglou admitted that the injury to Perisic, on the eve of his first North London Derby against Arsenal was a major blow to his burgeoning project. “It’s disappointing for us because he’s been a really important part of what we’ve done so far.
We don’t have many people with a lot of experience in the group, but he is one of them who can keep a cool head under pressure. He has played a key role in our games thus far. So, as I mentioned, we are both disappointed with him and what we are attempting to build.
The Australian manager continued, “He’s very strong willed and I’ve got no doubt he’ll come back for club and country and get back to the levels he showed before getting injured.”
