Illan Meslier wants to quit Leeds United but English options blocked off – sources
Illan Meslier is keen to quit Leeds United this summer but no offers have yet been made for his signature, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the 23-year-old does not want to play Championship football – but a lack of suitors could mean he starts the new campaign between the sticks.
Premier League clubs such as Man United, Brighton, Brentford and Tottenham have recently addressed their goalkeeping issues – meaning Meslier could be forced to explore a move to Spain, Italy or his native France.
Meanwhile, Leeds see the Frenchman as a sellable asset as they look to raise funds for transfer business of their own in the final month of the window.
Football Insider revealed on Friday (28 July) that the Whites will ask for bids of between £20-25million for the 23-year-old.
The Yorkshire giants previously valued the France Under-21 international at £40million.
Daniel Farke’s side are keen to add several players in the final month of the window having lost multiple stars on loan deals – including Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Robin Koch.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (29 July) that Leeds have identified a need for reinforcements at centre-back, striker and in midfield with the start of the Championship season just a month away.
They are close to adding another goalkeeper to their ranks – with an announcement for Karl Darlow’s arrival expected imminently.
Meslier was a regular starter for Leeds in the Premier League last term but was dropped for Joel Robles by Sam Allardyce in the final four games of the season.
He has racked up 126 appearances during his time at Elland Road, conceding 212 goals and keeping just 30 clean sheets.
The youngster could be between the sticks when Leeds kick off the new campaign against Cardiff next Sunday (6 August).
In other news, Leeds line up three signings.
