Exclusive: Leicester pencil in contract talks for midfielder as several clubs aim to strike

Leicester City are preparing to enter contract renewal talks with midfielder Hamza Choudhury, TEAMtalk understands.

Choudhury is in the final year of his contract at the King Power and the Foxes are eager to discuss potentially extending his stay. The former England U21 international has come through the ranks at Leicester, making 89 first-team appearances since being handed his debut against Liverpool in the League Cup back in 2017.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that a number of clubs are monitoring Choudhury’s situation at Leicester, but the East Midlands side will attempt to end all transfer talk by tying him down to fresh terms.

Choudhury returned to Leicester in the summer after spending last season on loan with Watford in the Championship.

The 25-year-old played 37 times for Watford in all competitions, but the move did not become permanent as the Hornets failed to win promotion back to the Premier League.

The tough-tackling midfielder is now fighting to hold down a starting spot under new manager Enzo Maresca at Leicester. Maresca is trying to get Leicester back into the top flight at the first time of asking, following their shock relegation last season.

Choudhury has made five appearances so far this term, but his only two starts have come in the League Cup.

Choudhury’s midfield counterpart Wilfred Ndidi was backed to join Nottingham Forest in the summer, but he ultimately ended up staying at Leicester.
