Amad Diallo’s Manchester United uncertainty after injury lay-off and mooted Sunderland return
The Manchester United forward was a standout performer for the Black Cats on loan last season
Never fall in love with a loan player.’ That was thee message on social media from the Sunderland faithful following Amad Diallo’s return to Manchester United at the end of his loan spell.
The Ivorian was the standout performer for Tony Mowbray’s young Black Cats side as they reached the Championship play-off semi-final. Amad took the Championship by storm with 14 goals and four assists in all competitions.
Black Cats supporters had hoped to see him return to the Stadium of Light for another loan spell this season, if Erik Ten Hag sanctioned a move. However, after picking up an injury in pre-season, Amad’s chances of leaving the club on loan diminished.
How did Amad fare in pre-season?
Steven Railston: “Amad started in games against Leeds and Lyon, which were the first two pre-season matches before the return of the majority of the first-team squad, and he acquitted himself well without really pulling up any trees.
“After his excellent loan with Sunderland, the plan was to assess him in pre-season before making a decision on his next step and he travelled to the USA for the summer tour, but he picked up his injury in the first game in the States.
