Leeds United transfer news: Fabrizio Romano shares permanent option update as Marc Roca jets out to Seville to seal exit

Marc Roca does have a permanent option in his loan deal to leave Leeds United for Real Betis after all, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 26-year-old touched down in Seville in Sunday night (16 July) to complete his long-awaited move back to La Liga from Elland Road.

AS had reported (8 July) there was a clause in the former Bayern Munich man’s deal that would see the Whites recoup their £10million outlay from a year ago should the move be made permanent, but El Desmarque then claimed on Saturday (15 July) that was not the case and it was instead an option to extend the loan if Leeds United are not promoted.

However, reporting via Twitter on Sunday night (16 July) Romano wrote: “Marc Roca, in Sevilla in order to sign as new Real Betis player on loan with buy option clause from Leeds.”

Some Whites supporters might have preferred the option to be an obligation given the Spaniard had an up-and-down season at Elland Road.

But, amid a series of first-team loan exits this summer that appear to be devoid of the potential for Leeds United to receive future transfer fees, this one apparently does have the door open for one next summer.

The not inconsiderable hurdles of Roca performing well enough back in his home country for Betis to want to keep him, and then them being able to afford him, must be cleared in the mean time.

But since his move to Elland Road did not pan out as hoped, much like most of last season’s transfer haul, since the Whites now a Championship side that would probably be the preferred outcome for player and club.

Daniel Farke looks like he is sure to need at least one central midfielder signed this summer, but much of the picture at that position now hinges on whether Tyler Adams can be convinced to forego extensive transfer interest and remain for the promotion push.

Should the USMNT captain leave it would be a far greater loss than the one that is set to be sealed in La Liga imminently, but there looks to be increasing hopes that it might be avoided.

Whether Roca returns next summer remains to be seen but the framework does seem to bbe there for him to make a permanent exit after all.

In other Leeds United news, an update has now emerged on another key man’s possible exit sharing whether he’s being pushing to leave since relegation after a bid was tabled.
