Fabrizio Romano’s latest transfer update could actually be good news for Nottingham Forest
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Brentford have lodged a new bid for Fiorentina winger Nico Gonzalez, potentially ending their pursuit of Brennan Johnson.
Thomas Frank’s side have already had two bids rejected for Johnson this window, with their latest offer being around the £35 million mark.
The Reds have insisted that they are willing to sell the Welsh international should they receive a bid in the region of £50 million.
Despite this, Brentford are the only side to have tabled a bid for the winger this window, with Tottenham and Chelsea still interested in the 22-year-old.
However, it is thought that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are looking at other potential alternatives before the closure of the window next Thursday.
Good news for Nottingham Forest
The prospect of Brennan Johnson potentially staying at Nottingham Forest after next Thursday’s deadline is a massive boost.
He may not have hit the ground running at the start of this campaign, but the 22-year-old managed to bag eight Premier League goals last season, the difference between relegation and survival for sure.
Johnson missed the majority of pre-season through an ankle issue, so isn’t fully up to speed in comparison to most of the Forest squad.
On his day, the speedy winger can provide no end of trouble to the opposition and is a great threat for the Reds in the attacking third.
Romano’s update on Brentford’s interest elsewhere is certainly good news for the Reds.
Forest would love to keep hold of Johnson for another campaign and if they do fend off the interest, he could be worth even more in 12 months time.
