Tyler Murray, an NFL free agent who went undrafted in this year’s NFL Draft, has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Murray, a 24-year-old linebacker, was most recently working at Amazon when he received a call from his agent earlier this week saying the Steelers were interested in signing him.

“I was working at Amazon … and my agent called me and said, ‘We’ve got a workout for you with the Steelers,’” Murray said Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “And I’m like, ‘Aw man,’ so I had to tell my boss, ‘Hey I am going to have to leave work early today.’ And they were cool with it.

“So, next thing you know I was getting a flight up here around 7, so I made it and now they just decided to sign me, so I wanted to say it’s just a blessing. I am so happy to be here,” he added.

After Murray went undrafted in April’s NFL Draft, the former University of Memphis standout signed to the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad in May. He made it to the final round of roster cuts in training camp, but was released on Aug. 29, days before the season opener Sept. 10 at the Cleveland Browns.

Now, with another chance at an NFL career, Murray said he’s grateful for the opportunity.

“It was crazy,” Murray said. “I just wanna start out by saying I thank God for the opportunity Pittsburgh has given me.

“I just want to help the team the best I can — special teams, the practice squad, whatever I’ve got to do. I am sorry from the linebackers that got hurt. I hope I can meet them to learn from them and what they know already, so just being here to learn all I can and do the best I can to help this team out,” he added.

The Steelers, meanwhile, recently lost linebackers Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb to injury, which prompted them to sign Murray to their practice squad to help bolster the team’s linebacker corps.
