Milwaukee Brewers Sign Former Houston Astros Reliever
The Milwaukee Brewers have signed former Houston Astros reliever Enoli Paredes to a minor league contract. Paredes will be in MLB camp as a non-roster invite.
After appearing in 20 games for the Astros in 2020, Paredes saw limited action throughout the past few years. Most of that is due to his inability to throw strikes at times. In the 2021 season, he walked 17 hitters in just 8.2 innings.
During the 2020 season, the stuff was there. Although the walks were still an issue with 11 in 20.2 Innings, 20 strikeouts made up for it. 2020 was his best season as a professional.
Paredes spent the 2023 season in Triple-A. Once again, the walks were a major issue. In 54.1 innings pitched, he walked 45 hitters. The 4.80 ERA and command issues didn’t warrant a chance with the big league club again in 2023. A hard fastball, but the focus will be on whether he can control where it’s going.
Now, Milwaukee has a chance to try to figure that out.
For the Brewers, this is a good buy-low option. Given that he has a good fastball with an above-average slider, this could possibly be a great addition.
Milwaukee finds themselves in an interesting position as they head into the 2023-24 MLB offseason. This was one of the better teams in baseball during the 2023 season, but rumors suggest that things might be going a different way for them heading into next year.
