Former Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday boss is the front-runner to lead Oldham Athletic in the National League.
Stephen Clemence, a former head coach of Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday, is now considered the front-runner to lead Oldham Athletic of the National League.

David Unsworth recently parted ways with the fifth-tier team after a seven-game losing streak.

Oldham Athletic said that it had parted ways with David Unsworth after he had been the first-team manager for a year in a statement.

“Unfortunately, the start of the current season has fallen short of the club’s hopes after a successful finish to the 2022–2023 season, a substantial investment in the playing budget, and several extremely promising signings during the summer.

“Since the Rothwell family acquired ownership of Oldham Athletic in July 2022, one of their guiding philosophies has been to refrain from managing the club’s day-to-day football operations while ensuring stability for the club’s long-term existence.

“David signed for three seasons to bring stability to the playing front, but despite David and his coaching staff’s diligence and hard work, results have not been successful on the field.

“The board wishes David and John Ebbrell, his assistant, all the best as they move forward with their club management careers. Unfortunately, things did not turn out the way we had all hoped on this particular occasion.

Currently, Clemence is the 4/5 BetVictor favorite to take over, beating out former Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke.

Clemence, a former England youth international in his playing days, collaborated with Steve Bruce as a coach at both Hull and Wednesday.

While Micky Mellon is at odds of 8/1, Leam Richardson is the third favorite at 4/1.

Karl Robinson, who spent a brief time coaching Leeds United last season, is listed at 10/1 in the odds.
