Following a dismal start to the season, a former Burnley manager resigns from his position as League One team manager.
Wade Elliott, a former Burnley player, has resigned from his position as Cheltenham Town’s manager after only eight games of the current campaign.
With just one point so far this season and no victories, the Robins are at the bottom of League One.
They tied the EFL record of eight games without a goal set by Halifax in 1990/91 with their 3-0 loss against Peterborough United on Tuesday night.
The Robins revealed in a statement that “Cheltenham Town and first-team manager Wade Elliott parted ways today by mutual consent.”
“The directors would like to express their gratitude for Wade’s efforts since joining the team as a coach in September 2020, playing an important role in the club’s highest finish and then the League Two title win alongside Michael Duff.
“He was named head coach last summer and went on to achieve the club’s second highest finish in his own right.
“Assistant manager Kevin Russell has been asked to take interim charge of the team against Stevenage on Saturday.”
Elliott, 44, took over from another former Claret in Michael Duff as head coach in June 2022.
The former midfielder joined Cheltenham’s coaching staff in 2020 and was first-team coach prior to taking the top job.
But after guiding the team to League One safety and 16th place last season, Cheltenham have begun this season on a torrid run and failed to score or register a win.
Elliott made over 250 appearances for Burnley between 2005 and 2011.
