Following a training ground update, a vital Newcastle United defender is expected to miss the next five games.
Following his return to training, Emil Krafth might eventually be able to play for Newcastle United the following month.
After missing 13 months of training due to an ACL injury, Krafth has started participating in training at Newcastle this month. Due to an injury, the right-back was left off of the Magpies’ Champions League roster, but he has been added to the 25-man Premier League roster.
Even after he returns to full fitness, Krafth will still be behind Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento in the lineup, but Magpies head coach Eddie Howe says the 29-year-old is still a “vital” member of his team.
Howe gave The Gazette an update on the defender, saying, “It’s lovely to see him back, he’s a brilliant guy. It’s early steps for Emil.
He has now attended four or five training sessions and has become better with each one. I believe the team is pleased to have him back with them because of his fantastic attitude and importance to our team.
Since joining Newcastle for £5 million in 2019 from Amiens, Krafth has made 64 appearances and scored once. In August 2022, during the club’s 2-1 Carabao Cup victory at Tranmere Rovers, he made his final game for the team before suffering a catastrophic ACL injury.
Following Trippier’s injury, Krafth was crucial in ensuring that Newcastle maintained their Premier League status during the 2021–22 campaign.
