Tomasson names four things that pleased him with Rovers win

Jon Dahl Tomasson has praised his Blackburn Rovers players for ‘sticking to the plan’ after ending their poor run of form with a 4-0 win at Queens Park Rangers.

Rovers had lost their previous four Championship games before the weekend but returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion. From the moment Tyrhys Dolan opened the scoring at Loftus Road, it was one-way traffic.

A quickfire second from Arnor Sigurdsson put them in command of the match and they ensured the points came back to Lancashire with two more in the second half. Sigurdsson put the game beyond doubt on the hour before Sam Szmodics added gloss to the scoreline.

Tomasson was delighted with the performance, though he felt the display didn’t differ that much from recent games where they have lost. He was pleased with his side’s perseverance in sticking to the game plan, which eventually brought just rewards.

“We are thrilled with the result and the performance,” Tomasson said. “Going away in the Championship and winning is not easy.

“I think the boys did a brilliant job. We probably didn’t play our best game if you look at the past weeks, but the connections were there. We scored our goals.

“We kept QPR from having any real big chances after a few dangerous crosses in the first half. They had some shots some distance and we were solid. It’s important to keep a clean sheet as well.

“We scored four great goals. Great to see the away crowd and hear our Rovers fans behind the team. Sometimes you can lose confidence after the run of results we’ve had but the players stuck to the plan and they did the right things.

“We’ve been playing some great football, some great stuff, in the past weeks but we haven’t got results. It was great to see Tyrhys get his first goal, a clean sheet for Leopold Wahlstedt at this level and Sammie now has the same number of goals compared to last season.

“A lot of positive things and it was great to get a win and have a few days off.”

Tomasson admitted a positive result had been ‘coming’ in the last few weeks. Whilst fans have been concerned about a lack of results, his outlook on the situation has remained the same.

“I haven’t been getting confused in that way, we are sticking to the plan and I see the progress with this young team, the development of the young players,” he said. “Those four games we lost, we could’ve won them all as well.

“We played great football and if you keep doing the right things, that’s why I am extremely happy because we stuck to the plan. Maybe a bit of noise that wasn’t important, we played good and we got the result now as well.

“When you have two goals, normally you win the game. It was very important. I thought we could’ve scored more goals in the end.”
