Baltimore Orioles’ Brandon Hyde crowned AL Manager of the Year

Brandon Hyde has been named the American League Manager of the Year after leading the Baltimore Orioles to 101 victories in the 2023 season. Under Hyde’s leadership, the Orioles underwent a successful rebuild, improving from 110 losses in 2021 to an 83-79 record in 2022.

NEW DELHI: Brandon Hyde has been named the American League Manager of the Year, receiving the honor after guiding the Baltimore Orioles to an impressive 101 victories in the 2023 season. This achievement comes just two years after the Orioles endured a challenging season with 110 losses.
Under Hyde’s leadership, Baltimore underwent a successful rebuild, significantly improving to an 83-79 record in 2022.

While Hyde finished second in the Manager of the Year voting that year, the Orioles were well-prepared to take the next step in the 2023 season, thanks to a talented core of young players. Orioles infielderGunnar Henderson was also recognized as the unanimous AL Rookie of the Year on Monday night.

Hyde secured 27 out of 30 first-place votes for the AL Manager of the Year, with Bruce Bochy of the Texas Rangers, the World Series champions, receiving the remaining three votes. Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays, a two-time winner, finished third in the voting.

In the National League, Skip Schumaker of the Miami Marlins won the Manager of the Year award. In his first season at the helm, Schumaker led the Marlins to an 84-78 record, including an impressive 33-14 record in one-run games. Although the Marlins lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card Series, Schumaker’s impact on the team did not go unnoticed.

The voting for both awards was conducted by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America before the start of the postseason. Schumaker received eight first-place votes, three more than the runner-up,

Craig Counsell of the Milwaukee Brewers. Schumaker’s achievement adds to the list of four Marlins managers who have won this award in the past.
